I've used UQ's counselling service, which is easy to book online and offers 10 free sessions per year since you're already paying fees. The psychology school also has a master's student clinic for about $25 an hour with self-referral. If you need a psychologist, the UQ clinic requires a referral from their doctors and a mental health care plan; it's bulk-billed for Medicare or direct-billed for Allianz, with others charged at the rebate rate. Really helpful options.

I really liked the recent changes to PSYC1030. As a non-psych major, the lab report was daunting—it was based on a case study we'd analysed earlier and made up most of our grade. But the tutorial activities, quizzes, and worksheets helped make the workload manageable and learning progressive. With consistent revision and engaging with materials, it's possible to get a decent grade. Overall, a well-structured course.

I'd recommend international students get their own OSHC instead of using UQ's Allianz plan. Allianz is more expensive and the coverage is similar across providers. I went with Bupa – cheaper and better coverage for diagnostics and specialists. The only catch is the on-campus clinic only does direct billing for Allianz, so you pay upfront and claim later. Still worth it to save money. It's frustrating how UQ pushes the most expensive option on students who don't know better.

Yes, it's definitely possible. Last year when results came out, I got a 6 for one module. But then I saw the grade breakdown and my groupmates and I noticed a surprisingly low mark for our group project. We requested a remark through the faculty. It turned out many other groups also felt the assessment was unfair and asked for remarks. Eventually everyone's group got a remark about two months later. I know this isn't exactly your situation, but requesting a remark could help not only you but also others who were marked unfairly.

I heard that someone in the UQ marketing team said they prioritized advertising to private students because public schools were poor and unworthy. It's just an anecdote from a trusted source, but it's really unsettling. This makes me question whether the university truly values diversity and fairness.
