What students say

The RMIT scholarship form is super simple and applies you for every scholarship you're eligible for, including accommodation ones. Just basic questions about your studies, finances, and health. People say don't bother, but I got over $10k a year from this. Definitely recommend applying if you're eligible.

I think the city and specific course matter way more than just the uni name. RMIT is super practical for tech, plus you save money.

Honestly, it's tough finding a place under $400 per week near the city, especially if you want it furnished. Some PhD students can get accommodation scholarships to places like Unilodge or Scape with cheaper rent and bills included. Otherwise, look further out—Essendon has single units around $500 but it's super competitive. I'd recommend a share house or going further out. The market is really competitive.

Getting a private room was basically impossible during my PhD. Everyone I knew, including myself, ended up sharehousing because the rental crisis is so bad. On the plus side, if you can get a tutoring or lab demonstrator job from your supervisor, it pays around $60 an hour. That extra few thousand dollars really helps.
