I'd recommend going with a thin and light laptop for the CSE program here. Very few courses actually require powerful hardware. If you have a capable desktop at home, you'll be fine for those occasional heavy workloads.

I retook calc 1 and 2 at OSU after passing the AP test and still ended up having to retake MATH 2173. The math classes here are heavily dependent on which professor you get, which can make a huge difference in your experience.

Ohio State has a great engineering program, but the campus is huge and you're one of thousands. It can feel overwhelming. If you don't mind being a small fish in a big pond, it's a solid choice.

I went straight into Calc 3 and didn't have to retake it, but I wouldn't outright recommend the course. The teaching wasn't great, and I had to learn a lot on my own. Overall, it's manageable if you're already strong in math, but not a pleasant experience.

As an engineering student with one semester left, I'd say the math sequence isn't great. Calc 3, differential equations, and linear algebra are the only ones you use in higher-level classes. Most of Calc 1 and 2 feels unimportant except for basic concepts.

As a Buckeye undergrad, my calculus experience at OSU was the worst in my academics. When most of the class fails horribly, you'd think they'd reconsider their teaching, but they treat it as gatekeeping. The final looked nothing like anything before, and the professor couldn't care less about communication. I've never seen so many people crying after a final. I bailed on Calc 3, but everyone said it was easier. Truly, I hate that department.
