International students who complete a post-secondary program in Canada can earn additional points under the Express Entry system. A Canadian educational credential—such as a degree, diploma, or certificate from a recognized institution—provides a competitive advantage in the Comprehensive Ranking System.
Qualifying Canadian Work Experience
To be eligible under the Canadian Experience Class, a candidate must have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada. This experience must be gained within the three years before applying and can include full-time or an equivalent amount of part-time work. Work obtained through a post-graduation work permit often helps students meet this requirement.
Provincial Nominee Pathways
Many provinces operate immigration streams that target international graduates. These Provincial Nominee Programs can nominate individuals who have studied and worked in the province, leading to an additional 600 points under Express Entry and greatly increasing the chance of receiving an invitation to apply for permanent residence.

No. The Canadian Experience Class does not require a valid job offer. As long as you have at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada and meet the other program requirements, you can submit a profile without a job offer.
Q2: Can part-time work during my studies count toward the experience requirement?
No. Work experience gained while you are a full-time student—even if it is in a skilled occupation—does not count toward the minimum requirement for the Canadian Experience Class. Only authorized work experience obtained after completing your program of study is eligible.
